Thoughts on possible new modes by a co-inquirer
We recently published a proposal by Yves Citton for a mode called [MED] and in a similar vein please find below a series of 17 (!) tweets by a new co-inquirer Timothy Howles who recently open a Twitter account specifically dedicated to the AIME inquiry.
Please feel free to do the same!
OK, 17 tweets to follow with thoughts on @AIMEProject and possible new modes. Sorry!

[1/17] I love AIME & I believe it is the future of responsible inquiry. But what will be the lever to prize open the 15 modes to yield more?
— Tim Howles (@AimeTim) 6 Février 2015
[2/17] The more I study the (infamous) pivot-table, the more I admire its sturdiness, its explanatory potential for ‘all’ of human history.
— Tim Howles (@AimeTim) 6 Février 2015
[3/17] Thus: [NET] [PRE] [DC] = the conceptual infrastructure; [REP] [MET] [HAB] = that which precedes the human as his condition-to-be;
— Tim Howles (@AimeTim) 6 Février 2015
[4/17] [TEC], [FIC], [REF] = realm of anthropogenesis or hominization, these modes allow humans to leave their mark on the world as it were;
— Tim Howles (@AimeTim) 6 Février 2015
[5/17] [POL], [LAW], [REL] = add further strata to this inheritance, giving us groups, responsibilities, rights and solidarities;
— Tim Howles (@AimeTim) 6 Février 2015
[6/17] finally [ATT], [ORG], [MOR] = an unholy amalgam of the oikonomia that is the contemporary expression of [DC] & must be disaggregated.

[7/17] #Latour has said about this smooth surface: ‘I’m terribly sorry, but they grouped themselves like this’. http://t.co/TBxm7pLL7V
— Tim Howles (@AimeTim) 6 Février 2015
[8/17] So where’s the chink in this smooth surface? Some candidates for my money are as follows:
— Tim Howles (@AimeTim) 6 Février 2015
[9/17] Option A. a mode spawned like a Ridley Scott alien out of the belly of something like [MET:TEC] called [ROB] (for ‘robot’)…
— Tim Howles (@AimeTim) 6 Février 2015
[10/17] …this would be the transhumanist nightmare of man’s condition transformed by the absence of [MOR] = the advent of de-hominization.
— Tim Howles (@AimeTim) 6 Février 2015
[11/17] Option B. a mode called [FTH] (‘faith’) which is similar to [REL] in that it would function via reprise of meaning ...
— Tim Howles (@AimeTim) 6 Février 2015
[12/17] … but its telos would be not ‘proximity’, but faith in an onto-theological being (God) who in His grace has set up reality this way…
— Tim Howles (@AimeTim) 6 Février 2015
[13/17] …[FTH] mode would thus teeter on the verge of disqualification but wd be close to dialectical theology of Kierkegaard or Karl Barth.
— Tim Howles (@AimeTim) 6 Février 2015
[14/17] Option C. a mode called [ANM] (‘anomie’), a Durkheimian notion in which a person is severed from both [NET] and [PRE] […]
— Tim Howles (@AimeTim) 6 Février 2015
[15/17] […] but this person doesn’t fall back on [DC] in their place. It wd be close to the experience of clinical depression…
— Tim Howles (@AimeTim) 6 Février 2015
[16/17]…it’s what Justine experiences in von Trier’s film – but notice she is ‘saved’ by the advent of the coming apoc. (Melancholia=Gaia).
— Tim Howles (@AimeTim) 6 Février 2015
[17/17] anyway, Twitter is great for speculating on new modes because you don’t need to explain yourself in more than 140 ctrs! @AIMEproject
